DO Try This At Home:  Condition Before You Shampoo

October 9th, 2015

I’ve been doing it for years, and it really does make sense.

If I find myself washing my hair more frequently then I would like, I avoid the conditioner weighing down my hair by applying it first then shampooing. At times I even reapply a little more to the ends afterwards to avoid tangling. Now I am learning hair brands are launching 'PreShampoo' products, like Kerastase Resistance Soin Premier Therapiste Reverse Care Conditioner, $42 (but probably could find it cheaper surfing the Internet) and Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Pre-Shampoo, $9.

imageEven though these conditioners seem to defy logic, the results are nothing but soft and sleek! Anyone who needs an extra dose of conditioner to manage frizz, minimize damage from chemical processing or soften coarse hair could benefit from this extra step before their regular shampoo. But, choose the conditioner wisely according to your hair type. And if you have fine hair, consider a conditioner that's lighter than what you normally use in order to compensate for the added hydration. And does it necessarily have to be labeled "Pre-Shampoo", my thoughts are not at all. A good one to try that just hit the market is Dove Advanced Hair Series Oxygen Moisture Conditioner for fine, flat hair, under $6.
