Spring Nail Trends

March 25th, 2009

Blue skies and a bright forecast.

It's that time of year when trying as many nail shades is just plain fun. We asked some of the nail leaders in the industry to share their trend report.

Dreamy and Blue

imageWithin the soft palette of hues that floated down this season's runways, one color stood out among the rest... blue. Essie- the Queen of Nail Salons- reflects this dreamy collection in its new The North Fork Collection launching in April. "The new nail colors remind me of the most beautiful blues that surround The North Fork", says Essie Weingarten, founder and CEO of Essie Cosmetic. "Tranquil yet playful, the colors cross over in fashion and in nature."

Cocoa (nudes) = "it" color of the season

imageAccording to Jan Arnold, co-founder, CND- a line that is forever setting the runway trends, "Sheer is out, opaque is in when it comes too clean, groomed looking manicures. Cocoa, a creamy opaque foundation color, is the new nude for spring. Saturated color in fleshtones to match your skin look fantastic on toes to show off sexy, bejeweled or embellished sandals and has a slimming, elongating effect on hands."

Brave and Bold

imageA brighter take on fashion sets the tone on the spring 2009 runways. So it's only a natural progression that nail companies picked up on this trend. Achelle Dunaway, creative director and resident makeup artist of e.l.f. Cosmetics shares, "The trend for summer nails is Neon! The 80's are back, so give your look a bright kick with hot shades of pink, purple and yellow."

Nail Art Alert!

imageFor the artistic, Sally Hansen's new Nail Art Pen allows for a touch of creativity in an easy to use polish. Seen backstage at Thakoon, a small black moon on a clean nail or try a French manicure, but switch the white for a thin black or bright line.

Tune in this weekend where I will be live blogging from a beautiful location. My readers in Arizona will especially benefit from the information I will be sharing!
