A new year for minerals.

imageMinerals now abound in cosmetics especially main stream. The mineral concept keeps evolving and continues to take a giant leap forward in 'good-for-you' beauty.

Here's a look at the NEW minerals:

image-Micro-fine minerals. This is a key ingredient, because natural mineral pigments have been triple-refined, optimizing their affinity with the skin.

Who has it: Maybelline's New Mineral Power line (launching this month) is the first complete mineral line at mass and it touts its secret: micro-minerals.

image-Colorants infused with minerals. Minerals are being infused with dyes and color pigments to offer a light, breathable makeup with flawless blendability.

Who has it: Max Factor ColorGenius Blush offers this mix, and "Peaches" was a runway favorite of P&G's Global Creative Designer Pat McGrath who helped create the shade for Spring/Summer 2008!

image-Dye-Free Minerals: Natural pigments, pure mineral pigments, offer deeper, richer and longer lasting colors compared to pigment dyes. Women gain better coverage, and must realize a little goes a long way.

Who has it: Launching in February is N.Y.C. New York Color Smooth Mineral Loose Eye Powder Kit

image-No Parabens. No Preservatives. Offers 100% mineral based with none of these 'talked about' harmful ingredients.
Who has it: e.l.f. Natural Mineral Starter Kit offering foundation, concealer and a blush plus brushes .

imageNo Bismuth Oxychloride. Bismuth oxychloride is known to irritate the skin; so these minerals should be avoided on sensitive skin and post-surgery skin.

Who has it: Smoky Mountain Minerals (a reader tipped me off to this line, thanks Janie!) is a definite good for you brand, but it does contain mica.

image-Sun protection. The base ingredients of most mineral makeup are titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, which are natural sunblocks. However, not all mineral makeup provide full spectrum protection from the sun, and one must not skip on sunblock.

Who has it: Colorscience Suncanny foundations & Sunforgettable powders provide full spectrum UVA/UVB protection.
