Hope in a Lip Gloss, Nutrition from a Cream?

January 10th, 2007

The latest’s products tout feeding your skin from the inside out.

imageImagine getting a daily dose of vitamins straight from your lip gloss? Or a cream that helps "feed your skin"? This is becoming a reality and your lipstick could deliver internal health benefits, while your cream delivers naturally derived nutrients direct to your skin.

Nutraceuticals (or Nutri-Cosmetics as used by Marketers) is the beauty buzzword of 2007. It refers to foods or individual chemicals in foods thought to have a beneficial effect on the body.

imageTarte Cosmetics has teamed with Borba Nutraceuticals (the creator of drinkable skincare) to launch TarteInside Out lip gloss. The concept originated after calculating that the average woman ingests between two to four pounds of lip gloss in her life--- that is 708 tubes! Inside Out gloss is infused with Borba's powerful skin-caring ingredients like green tea extract, grape seed extract and vitamins A, C and E. This ingredient blend works wonders in replenishing moisture and clarifying the skin. It will be available in three gorgeous shades of light pink, nude and fuchsia in February on at $21 a piece.

It doesn't stop here. Many more products being introduced in 2007 will combine shampoo and skin care products with nutraceuticals.

imageGarnier Nutritioniste line is launching right now and it uses food nutrients in skin care. The research and development team collaborated with dermatologists and nutritionists to develop the line. It is comprised of 15 products that include complexes of Vitamin A, B5 and E, grapeseed extract, Omega 3 + 6 and Magnesium that have all been "handpicked by a nutritionist and tested by a dermatologist. All of these ingredients are found in foods such as various fruits, salmon, spinach, sunflower and many more. Unfortunately we don't always get the proper daily amount, now we can turn to our skin care for that extra boost. The line is priced from $5.99 to $16.99 and is available at mass retailers nationwide and at Garnier Nutritioniste.

Medical experts are weary just how beneficial nutraceuticals are, but one thing is for sure it can't hurt you.
