Foundations’ Future Applicators

January 20th, 2010

New tools cleverly created.

Last year mascaras got fancy and added a little wiggle to their application. This year's news is the foundation applicator.

Lancome's Oscillation PowerFoundation started the innvoation with a vibrating applicator to help deliver and smooth the micro-fine particles on to the skin.

L'Oreal Paris and Maybelline have introduced one-of-a kind applicators to help deliver foundation to a seamless finish.

I am intrigued with these new products that creatively offer an unexpected twist in application and tried them out for myself.

imageL'Oreal Paris True Match Roller Perfecting Roll-on Makep is a cream compact with a roll-on brush, similar to a painter's roller only miniature. I love the True Match foundation and find the 12 color shade range a professional pick, but was disappointed in this applicator. It is a clever idea, but doesn't live up to its expectation. On initial application it delivers more coverage to where the imagetwo ends of the rollers apply the foundation. Also, the face has many angles and contours making it difficult to maneuver the roller into these areas. I find the roller is less exacting than a brush and unfortunately it does leave streaks. For an airbrush finish you should use your fingertips, sponge or brush to blend it in perfectly.

Launching now in a professional shade of 12 colors for $14.95.

imageMaybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Treatment Makeup is a super concentrated formula with age-defying ingredients like Goji berry + Collagen. Its unique sponge applicator resembles an at-home shoe polish. It takes some time to start it up, I kept turning and pressing, turning and pressing, and finally the liquid surfaced to the top. This applicator is expertly created and conforms to tricky areas like around your nose, but it needs some getting used to since it isn't the way one would normally put on makeup. Overall it does a nice job in blending for a flawless finish.

Launching in February in 12 shades, $12.99.
