Butterfly Lashes

L’Oreal Paris Butterfly Intenza Mascara

We've all heard of the term 'Butterfly Kiss', well do you know you can also create the "Butterfly Lash". This has been seen on the runway for years, in fact, I captured this 'winged-out' lash effect over ten years ago when I was working with a mascara brush manufacturer. The lash look mirrored a butterfly's wing, starting narrow near the body and spreading out and creating a fuller effect at the wing. It didn't take long for this look to become 'most wanted' and eventually a mascara brush was created to epitome this flutter, naturally called L'Oreal Paris Butterfly Intenza Mascara.

Yes, believe it or not you can use a mascara to create the flutteriest lashes- even if there isn't such a word- and yes, it truly does work. The idea is the brush offers a double-wing effect that fans out just like you want your lashes. It works beautifully with little to no clumping, and gave my lashes a dramatic look. When I was applying, I concentrated on 'fanning' the outer lashes for a strong wide-eye appeal. I created more of a fuller, lengthening benefit rather than a thickening, because this is what I preferred. I find many thickening mascaras create clumps, and I prefer creating length. One downfall, and not sure if it was just due to my allergies, since they have been in high force lately, but by the end of the day, I noticed some flakes under my eyes. Everyone has a tough day, and if my mascara can hold up to most of it, I can deal with a few after 8-hour flakes.

As Margaret Mitchell, the author of Gone With The Wind, once wrote, "fluttering her bristly black lashes as swiftly as butterflies' wings" captures a strong image of just how beautiful this look should be.
