Sublime Sunscreen

March 28th, 2012

A new era of sun care awaits this summer!

Heading out on vacation to a hot, sunny island, I received a package that couldn't have been delivered at a better time.

Inside the box was L'Oreal's New Sublime Suncare Collection. Beautifully packaged, easily labeled with products covering the protection gamut for head to toe coverage, I decided to take a few along for a try. I couldn't have been more pleased with the results. Many sunscreen formulas promote a sticky, tacky feel that you are prone to expect; therefore, except the wear for the beach, but not off. All the products in the line for face and body are pleasantly light, sheer and non-greasy. Protection at its finest, the Sublime Sun Liquid Silk Sunshield for Face, SPF50+ kept me burnt-free under the strong Bermuda sun. And I like that the body products are available in both SPF 30 and 50+. This allows me to get a little sun with the SPF 30, but the SPF 50 acts like a 'shield' once I had too much. In addition to offering both UV filters (UVA & UVB) the line is infused with multi-action antioxidants for protection against free radicals. The combination of protection plus good-for-you ingredients kept me applying and wearing the product even after I got off the beach to stroll around town.

Dr. Gervaise Gerstner, L'Oreal Paris Consulting Dermatologist, is the expert behind the products. I had a chance to get her thoughts on some common sunscreen concerns and why this product line is different from the others out there.

MBB: How is this new line different from others on the market?
Dr. Gerstner: The L'Oreal Paris Sublime Sun Collection is different for a number of reasons:

1) The luxurious, ultra-lightweight texture of this collection does not leave white streak marks/residue or cake.
2) It is formulated with an advanced photostable (unchangeable) patented UV filter system.
3) It has powerful antioxidants and offers a complete range of protection against the sun's damaging rays.
MBB: What is different between the body mist versus lotion?
Dr. Gerstner: The biggest difference between sunscreen in body mist form vs lotion is ease of use. I use the L'Oreal Paris Sublime Sun Crystal Clear Mist when I'm at the beach with my daughters. I love it because it's so easy to apply, it's not messy or sticky and is clear when applied. It's also great for re-application after swimming or running around the beach.

MBB: What is the number one mistake you see most when it comes to women using sunscreen?
Dr. Gerstner: The #1 mistake that I see is that women are not using enough sunscreen. I hear questions like - "When does sunscreen expire?" which is an indication that they aren't using enough - you shouldn't have a bottle from last year, because you should be using multiple bottles throughout the summer season. People tend to forget that you need to reapply sunscreen every hour or so.

MBB: How much should one apply on the face?
Dr. Gerstner: For the face, I suggest about a quarter size and for the body, I suggest using enough sunscreen to fill a shot glass.

I particularly love the Sublime Sun Crystal Clear Mist Spray SPF 30, because of its continuous spray--- once you start you want to keep going especially if you are applying it on young teens.
