Even A Beauty Blogger Needs to go Shopping

April 27th, 2012

Find out what I bought.

Even beauty bloggers need to go shopping and purchase a few items. So yesterday was my birthday, and I decided to plan a day out splurging on myself.

My day started with a challenging fitness class at Go Figure. I love this Studio and its unique and effective use of "The Figure Method" to get you strong and feeling great! I couldn't think of a better way to start my day.

imageNext on the agenda was a trip to Sephora on Greenwich Avenue to purchase a few new items for myself. I've been on a hunt for a good eye concealer. Currently, I've been using Maybelline Instant AgeRewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer and although I have been happy with the applicator, I'm not happy with the shade. The medium shade tends to be a little too yellow and is noticeable as so under my eyes. The color needs to have a tinge more neutral in it for the perfect skin tone match. After trying a few formulas, I decided to give Korres Quercetin & Oak Antiageing & Antiwrinkle Concealer in Medium Beige a try. I am really loving the Korres line lately and plan on experimenting with more of the products in their skin and color line. What I like about this eye concealer is its neutral shade, not too white, not too yellow, just the right amount of nude, and its creamy texture avoids any 'crease-effect'. Plus it's ideal for hydrating and protecting the delicate skin around the eye, and contains a powerful natural antioxidants, Quercetin & Oak. I have been applying my concealer on with a brush, but now believe it is best applied with the soft tapping of your ring finger. The warmth from your skin helps blend the concealer into the under-eye area for a most natural look. So far so good, I really like it and it looks 100% natural. I am very happy with this purchase.

imageI also never stop searching for the ultimate nude blush that offers a sun-kissed, bronzed look without the 'orangy' cast. I prefer a cream based formula, due to more glowifying results. Josie Maran's cream blush in Sun-Kissed seems to do the trick and offers a nice neutral tone to the cheeks. Maybe it is a tad too natural, but I can always add a touch of pink or coral to the cheeks if needed. My cheeks in the summer tend to turn pink even when I am out running around due to the heat, so I am always looking to use shades with less pink or red tones in them. I also picked up a Stippling Brush to achieve a flawless application. This type of brush offers two layers of bristles and is used in foundation application to help smooth and blend. I thought it would also work to apply a lighter application in blush, and I am loving. it. image

Down to my last application of daily face cream, I knew I wanted to give Ole Henriksen's Truth Creme Advanced Hydrationimage a try. Just right for the summer, this light-textured creme glides onto the skin effortlessly and absorbs quickly to leave you with a beautiful, radiant glow. Strengthened by vitamin C, it calms, heals, brightens, and boosts collagen, and it smells like a crate of oranges! It doesn't contain sunscreen, which for me is fine, since my daily Perricone tinted foundation contains a SPF 30.

The skin on my chin has been dry, scaly and irritated lately. I know it has either had a reaction with an ingredient in one of the products I have been using or seen too much retinol in the past week. While waiting on line to purchase all my 'beauty goodies', there was a tube of First Aid Ultra Repair Therapy for $12 staring right at me. Knowing this line is 'hot' at the moment, I thought this could be the remedy my chin was needing. I purchased it and in the car didn't hesitate to apply this soothing cream right under my lip and entire chin area. No burning, no stinging just immediate comfort and relief. Thank goodness I got this.

So there you have my recent list of purchases, not regretting any, 24 hours later. And my shopping spree didn't stop there, I went on to purchase a cute top at Zara, and a pair of Tory Burch sandals, thankfully the time struck kid pick up time or else I would have committed more damage.

I believe everyone needs to enjoy their birthday and yes, my afternoon and evening was consumed with my transporting my boys around and watching their baseball game, but I do agree never to cook on my birthday and a trip to my favorite restaurant ended this beautiful day with a Pinot Grigio and my three handsome men in my life.
