January 7th, 2009

My Beautyberry investigates all things new and worthy.

Here's the scoop on the most advanced technologies, must-have innovations, super food ingredients and packaging that takes a turn back to simplicity.

image1. Be Your Own Pro at Home--- Do it yourself products and derm-quality applications and ingredients (like hyaluronic acid, peptide blends and glycolic acid) continue to gain clout and offer potent renditions of high efficiency 'pro- strength' products and procedures. This extends into hair color, hair removal and so much more. They duplicate professional services that conveniently and more cheaply can be done in the privacy of your humble abode. Watch out for: Olay Pro X, Lancome High Resolution Refill 3X, Estee Lauder Time Zone, Clinique Turnaround Radiance Peel Once-A-Week System, Kiehl's Highly Efficient Skin-Tone Corrector, Rodial Glamtox Peel, Clairol Perfect Ten Hair Color, TRIA laser.
2. GPS device for skin--- Antiaging is using advanced ingredient combinations that work dynamically with specialized delivery systems to target problem zones. Watchout for: Laboratoire Remede and Lancaster Retinology.
3. The next BIG thing since BOTOX--- "RELOXIN," reports Dr. Leslie Baumann, Director- University of Miami, Cosmetic Medicine and Research, "the new Botox, waiting FDA approval, kicks in faster than Botox- in 2 days while Botox takes about 7. And it lasts 5 months while Botox lasts 4 months."
image4. Lash Envy--- The luxury of never needing to apply mascara again, is becoming a reality. Just a few weeks ago the FDA approved Latisse, by Allergen- the pioneer behind Botox- which is a drug to enhance lash thickness and length. It is available by a prescription only and be sure to talk to your doctor about the side-effects. If you choose to flutter cosmetically try two new launches, Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara and M.A.C's Dazzle Lash for superb length.
image5. Bye, Bye Self-Tanning Smell--- Aromaguard is the latest advancement to take the odor out of self tanning. St. Tropez, the leading self-tan company in the U.K., has found a way to banish the smell of the DHA protein by 70%. The future of capturing the bronze keeps getting brighter and more treatment focused. Michelle Feeney , CEO of St. Tropez says, "Sunless tanners for the face will offer cosmeceutical benefits, which help add moisture and antioxidant protection. All adding to a more radiant complexion." Watch out for: St. Tropez Everyday Tan and Self-Tan launching early April.

6. The New Generation of Eco-Friendly--- Cold-process formulations, sulfate-free hair products, and 'precycling' are the new buzzwords of the moment! Be on the lookout for no fuss and reusable packaging and MBB noticed a pretty common leaf motif on the newest launches. Watch out for: L'Oreal's EverPure Sulfate-free line, Almay's pure blends line, Carol Alt's new RAW skincare line, Revale Skin Replenishing Eye Therapy and The Healthy Seed.
image7. The Latest Crop of Prettifying ingredients--- Acai still holds ground, but watch out for these new ingredients stealing the thunder from Mother Nature. Synsepalum dulcificum is called the 'miracle berry' from West Africa, because once eaten it has the 'magical' ability to turn anything you eat into heavenly and sweet. Acerola is a cherry-like fruit common in the West Indies said to be rich in vitamin C and is being recognized in the beauty industry for its ability to even skin tone and boost collagen. And Hemp is an amazing ingredient not used enough. Hempseed oil contains a high amount of amino acids. Its EFA profile helps rejuvenate and replenish skin while providing superior moisturizing benefits. Watch out for: Nude Skincare's Advanced Smoothing Complex, and The Healing Seed.
8. Unwanted Hair Beware--Hair growth inhibitors are being formulated in lotions and deodorants to help you stay hair free longer. Watch out for: Yves Rocher Minimizing Body Lotion and a top secret deodorant launching in April---- sorry, we promised we wouldn't tell!
9. Body Mapping--- The beauty world has begun to dismantle the body and target treatments to meet the specific needs of those areas. Focus is being made on hands, elbows, knees, and toes. Watch out for: B.Kamins exfoliating Elbow, Knee and Foot Cream,Knuckle Balm, Space NK Hand, Dr. Hauschka Rosemary Leg and Arm Toner.
image10. Fragrance Renewal--- No need to be left not smelling your best. A new encapsulated fragrance technology allows all day freshness with a 'brush of the skin'. It 'breaks' on contact with friction releasing "a refreshing fragrance of melon, apples and lily of the valley that leaves skin smelling fresh as you move throughout the day," says Teresa Gonzalez, Body Care Product Director of Johnson's (R). Watch out for: Johnson's Forever Fresh Refreshing Lotion launching now.

Stay tuned to upcoming issues of My Beautyberry where these products will be featured.
