Hair Color of the Moment: Ombre

L’Oreal Paris Feria Wild Ombre
Before The First Lady stole the show this past week and dazzled everyone with her wispy bangs, ombre hair color was trending big time. The Ombre-effect is hair color that goes from darker to lighter. Whether you had it done intentionally or just because you couldn't get over to the salon for a touch-up, you were stylin' just like the stars.
Jessica Biel, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rachel Bilson, Kate Beckinsale and Sarah Jessica Parker are just a few of the celebrities who wore it well. Also known as dip-dye this new way of coloring offers easy upkeep, because it's a little messy and imperfect. L'Oreal Paris Feria has just launched the first DIY at home Wild Ombre Kit that can help get you started. Ombré hair color is the new way to add light and contrast to your hair by lightening only the lengths and ends, creating a gradated dark to light effect. The trick in this kit is the patented Expert Brush that works with the formula to achieve this modern new take on highlights. This brush-on technique allows you to control the look you want without any mess.
While attending the press event, I had a chance to see for myself how easy it was to do. For a mistake-proof application, it's best to start midway down the hair shaft to the ends. While getting ready to apply, brush hair all forward and saturate the brush with the hair color. Apply by keeping the brush vertical rather than horizontal, which gives you a lighter, more natural result. I captured, Christophe Robin, L'Oreal's Hair Color Consultant, on video demonstrating the best way to apply this hair color. You have to listen very carefully, Christophe has a wonderfully strong French accent, but you can visually see the application in progress.
As you can see, it's an easy process. Christophe shared, "this look isn't going away anytime soon, so get use to it."
L'Oreal Feria Wild Ombre is launching in February in three shades- Medium to Dark Brown, Dark Brown to Light Brown, Light to Medium Blond, for $12.99.
If your hair looks good...it's going to be a good day.
